Netflix viewers need to watch Tom Hardy's masterpiece drama with 84 per cent Rotten Tomatoes rating before it's too late

Tom Hardy's Warrior follows ex-marine Tommy, who is trained by his father to compete in a mixed martial arts tournament

Netflix viewers have just a short time left to watch Tom Hardy's acclaimed sports drama Warrior before it leaves the platform next month. The 2011 film, which stars Tom Hardy alongside Joel Edgerton, Nick Nolte and Frank Grillo, is set to be removed from the streaming platform on 14 April.

Directed by Gavin O'Connor, the film tells the story of two estranged brothers who enter a high-stakes mixed martial arts tournament, only to find themselves forced into both physical and emotional confrontation.

Since its release, Warrior has earned a strong critical reputation, holding an 84 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and building a loyal following among fans of the genre.

One fan wrote: "A hidden gem. One of the greatest sports films of all time." Another said: "Warrior is an unbelievably effective film, not just because it's emotionally rich, but because it doesn't treat the MMA sport like a joke." A third review read: "Dotted with emotional honesty and strong storytelling that you only find in truly special movies."

Another viewer penned: "Warrior is one of the top 10 movies of the past 15 years and it flies totally under the radar. This was a true masterpiece of a movie and performance from Tom Hardy and Nick Nolte."

What is Warrior about?

The film follows ex-marine Tommy, who after returning home to Pittsburgh, convinces his father, Paddy (Nick Nolte), a recovering alcoholic and former wrestling coach, to train him up for the world's biggest mixed martial arts tournament.

But when his estranged brother Brendan (Joel Edgerton), an ex-fighter turned physics teacher, decides to enter the tournament, the pair must go head-to-head in the ring.

The official synopsis reads: "Tommy Riordan, an ex-marine with a tragic past, returns home and enlists his father, a recovering alcoholic and former wrestling coach, to train him for 'Sparta', the biggest MMA tournament ever held."

Tom Hardy: 5 top roles

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011)

Amongst a huge cast, Tom stood out playing Ricki Tarr, a low-level field agent who happens to be quite the charmer.

Locke (2013)

Tom plays British construction manager Ivan Locke, and the entire film is a shot of him sitting at the wheel of his car, talking to important people on his mobile.

The Revenant (2015)

Tom Hardy's first Academy Award nomination was for his role as Fitzgerald, the villainous trapper, alongside Leonardo DiCaprio.

Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

Action star, Max Rockatansky, was a big shoe for Tom to fill, but he made the character his own.

Legend (2015)

Tom plays the Kray twins in this crime epic drama about the famous, notorious real-life gangsters.

It continues: "But when Tommy's underdog brother, Brendan, fights his way into the tournament, the two brothers must finally confront each other and the forces that pulled them apart. What ensues is the most gut-wrenching, soul-stirring and unforgettable battle of their lives."

There's no denying the film has been hailed as a standout in Tom's career - making it well worth catching before it disappears from the streaming service.
