Meta achieved something Google failed at a few years ago: making smart glasses part of the mainstream. A number of factors, including affordable prices, attractive designs, and—above all—truly useful features, contributed to this. Now, the company is boosting precisely that aspect of usefulness in its latest software rollout. More specifically, Meta’s Ray-Ban and Oakley smart glasses are now receiving the 22.0 update focused on clear communication and enhanced environmental awareness, addressing common problems like noisy rooms and visual accessibility.
Meta ships 22.0 update for Ray-Ban and Oakley smart glasses: New Conversation Focus
One of the most anticipated additions in this build is Conversation Focus. This feature uses AI to identify and amplify the voice of the person standing directly in front of you. It’s currently available for users in the Early Access Program.
If you have ever struggled to hear a friend in a crowded restaurant or a loud social gathering, this tool acts as a digital filter. the smart glasses now can isolate speech and reducing background chatter. This should help you maintain focus on your conversation without having to lean in or strain your ears.
Making things easier to reach with “Detailed Responses”
“Detailed Responses” is another big step forward. This feature aims to help visually impaired people or users just want to be more aware of their surroundings. The accessibility enhancement is now integrated into Live AI sessions for users in the U.S. and Canada.
When active, the glasses provide rich, descriptive narrations of the wearer’s environment. By looking at the visual field through the built-in camera, Meta AI can now describe objects, text, and scenes in more detail than before. This hands-free feature makes it easier to find your way around, making the glasses more useful for a wider range of people.
New language support and availability
Meta is also making its assistant available to more people around the world by adding support for Dutch. The rollout of this language is happening gradually. Once it’s available, Dutch-speaking users can make calls, send messages, and talk to Meta AI without using their hands.
Users just need to make sure their Meta View app is up to date and look in their device settings for the accessibility or early access menus to get to these new tools. There are also rumors of other advanced features in development, including facial recognition.
