Amid the geopolitical tension in America, yet another non-American is creating space to flourish. Melissa Barrera, the Mexican actress and singer-songwriter, is all set to showcase her acting skills at Broadway.
According to Variety’s exclusive, Melissa Barrera will debut in a Broadway show; she is stepping into the role in a campy spoof of Titanique as Rose.
The award-winning comedy is a spoof of James Cameron’s film Titanic, and will be from the perspective of Celine Dion’s songs. The musical features songs including ‘My Heart Will Go On’, ‘Because You Loved Me’, ‘All by Myself’, and ‘To Love You More’.
Marla Mindelle co-wrote the show with Tye Blue and Constantine Rousouli. She will also reprise the role of Celine Dion. The show first opened in June 2022 at the Asylum Theatre, followed by the transfer to the Daryl Roth Theatre, where it ran for three years, till 2025.
According to Variety, the other cast members joining the show are Jim Parsons, a four-time Emmy Award winner and Tony Award nominee, who plays the role of Rose’s mother. Grammy nominee Deborah Cox, a Grammy nominee will play Unsinkable Molly Brown.
While Melissa Barrera will be causing waves of laughter with her Broadway performance, she is also set to send Hollywood roaring with multiple projects.

Melissa Barrera’s latest appearance was in the Peacock Television series Copenhagen Test, alongside Simu Liu. As for what is next for the actress, audiences will have to put on their waiting shoes as Black Tide and The Collaboration remain under post production.
Black Tide is a survival thriller directed by Renny Harlin and filmed in Spain in October 2025. The film follows three generations of a family on a sailing holiday, who face an orca attack on their boat. It is a high-stakes, action-oriented thriller. The other cast members includes John Travolta, Ella Bleu Travolta, Álvaro Mel, and Dylan Torrell.
Her other project, The Collaboration, surrounds the story of two contrasting artists, Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat, begin a successful collaboration in 1980s New York after being paired by art collector Bruno Bischofberger. It is directed by Kwame Kwei-Armah and written by Anthony McCarten. Melissa will play Maya in it.
As Melissa Barerra steps into the role of Rose, it not only marks her debut in theatre but also signals her expanding creative field. As the Main Stem bow prepares for its live production, all eyes will be on how this fresh ensemble reimagines a beloved story for Broadway audiences.
