Two suspects have been charged after a man faced threats that explicit pictures would be released online.
Nottinghamshire Police said in 2023 the victim started chatting to what he thought was a woman on social media and was persuaded to send intimate images.
But those behind the fake account then forced him to send hundreds of pounds before he went to police.
Khalid Bamgbaiye, 26, and Tiwalade Abimbola, 25, have been charged with blackmail and after an appearance at Nottingham Magistrates Court on Friday were bailed to attend Nottingham Crown Court on 6 March.
Bamgbaiye, of Onslow Road, Southampton, and Abimbola, of Woden Road, Wolverhampton, have also been charged with concealing, disguising, converting, transferring or removing criminal property and were both bailed until their next appearance.
Det Sgt Alana Scott said: "Sextortion is a harrowing crime that can destroy lives and have a devastating impact on victims.
"Having tricked people into sharing intimate images of themselves online, criminals then use this content to blackmail those same individuals.
"It's a cruel offence that aims to pressure victims into following demands by making them feel deep shame and embarrassment."
