Kaley Cuoco isn’t afraid of a little action.
In her latest role in the MGM+ thriller Vanished, Cuoco’s Alice is on an intense search for her boyfriend Tom (Sam Claflin), after he suddenly goes missing on their train to the south of France. Throughout just four episodes, she uncovers his dangerous secret life that leaves her fearing for her own safety.
“Anyone that knows me knows I'm obsessed with true crime,” Cuoco tells PEOPLE. “So I've watched so much of these documentaries and all this stuff — this could happen. I've watched way crazier s--- happen. So it felt realistic in a way.”
The actress notes that her character went through a plethora of both physical and emotional battles and admits there were "definitely a few” times she was eager to get certain scenes over with.
“I remember we were doing the hotel scene in one of the rooms where I literally spent, like, seven straight hours crying my eyes out, because it was a crying scene,” Cuoco recalls. “By the end of it, I had cried for so long I was like, ‘I don't think I can ever cry again. I think the tears have left my body. I am done.’ I got more worn out from crying than I did doing any fight scenes.”
“Actually, what I loved was shooting the fight scenes,” she adds. “That was so fun. I love doing active stuff like this and learning the choreography and getting down and dirty, and it was actually really fun. So I really enjoyed the fight scenes.”
Cuoco explains that there are a lot of different technical strategies that are “mapped out for days” before filming a fight sequence, which she found interesting.
She also made sure to stick to a relaxing nighttime routine, especially because she traveled to film in Marseille alone while her fiancé Tom Pelphrey stayed back with their 2-year-old daughter Matilda.
“A large glass of wine right when I get home,” she shares. “I don't care what time it is. A large glass of wine, and then turning on my sitcoms — Seinfeld — turning on my shows. That always makes me feel like I'm at home, which I still do today. I watched those shows today.”
She continues, “When people come up to me and they're like, ‘Oh my God, Big Bang, I grew up watching…’ There are shows that I feel that way about that are my comfort, so I totally understand that, and I had those when I was in France.”
